Costume Ideas for a Harry Potter Costume

One of the most popular costumes this year is Harry Potter. With the release of the new movie Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, fans are rushing out to find the perfect Harry Potter costume for their trick or treating adventures.

Transform into the boy wizard himself by combining these costume pieces to make a Harry Potter costume.  There are also lots of new Harry Potter accessories available to complete your look.

Harry Potter Gryffindor Robe – Every Harry Potter fan knows that Harry belongs to the House of Gryffindor and wears a black Gryffindor robe with Gryffindor crest embroidered onto it.You can find Harry Potter Gryffindor robes online or use a black robe that you already have.  There are lots of options depending on how elaborate you want to go this year.

Add a white shirt with collar, black shoes and black pants to complete the basic look.

Harry Potter Glasses – Harry Potter is never seen without his trademark round glasses.Wearing a pair of round Harry Potter glasses makes your costume more complete.We found lots of great Harry Potter glasses available online for less than five dollars.

Harry Potter Tie – Harry Potter wears the Gryffindor tie that is burgundy in color and has gold stripes.You can buy a Harry Potter tie or you can make your own.Save money and make your own Gryffindor tie by going to the fabric store and buying some dark red felt fabric.Pin your tie to the top of the felt fabric and trace a pattern around the tie with a pen.Cut along the pen line with scissors to cut out your tie.Use gold fabric paint to paint an alternating pattern of stripes down the tie.Very quick and easy.

Harry Potter Wand – a wand is an essential costume piece because all respectable wizards carry a wand.Choose from several cool Harry Potter wands!  There are several versions that light up and make sound and some that are motion activated.Any will work for your costume.

Harry Potter Scar – Harry is known for having a lightning bolt shaped scar on his forehead.When Harry was young he survived an attack by Lord Voldemort that left a lightning bolt shaped scar on his forehead.  You can easily duplicate the look by drawing on a lightning bolt with an eyeliner pencil.  You can also buy lightning bolt temporary tattoos and even a Harry Potter scar and makeup kit if you want a real looking scar.

Other fun accessories could be a Harry Potter lantern.  We found one that lights up so it is great for trick or treating.Consider adding a Harry Potter broomstick to your costume for some added fun.Quidditch costumes that include broomstick, snitch and helmet are popular this year.
