How To Embellish In Art Deco

Are you interested in designing the inside of your residence with an art deco flair?  It is crucial to know and understand what art deco means and where it originated from.  When it comes time to purchase items for your place, this understanding will help you find the right pieces.  Art deco is a mix of modernism, cubism, and art nouveau that began during the 1920’s.  During the height of its popularity, it actually was considered a modern design.  In the 1940’s art deco’s prominence began to slowly descend.

Since the 1940’s, art deco has had a revival in popularity.  It grows more popular today as designers become interested in the style and value of art deco designs.  A big number of retro styled products have recently been designed, due to the growing interest in deco décor.  With so many pieces being developed with retro looks, you have more options than ever before.  This new excitement in art deco is prompting stylists and homeowners to search vintage stores and find items like antique mirrors, lamps, and furniture.

It is easy to redecorate in art deco when you know what kind of furniture to get for your home.  It will be important to know what new items will work, since vintage furniture can be hard to find and costly.  A couple valuable locations to look are IKEA or a European furniture shop.  It will cost much less to get simple knock-off  furniture that are similar to originals.  Art deco furniture has a simplistic approach, and is noted to have straight or curved styles that are bold with a small amount of embellishment.  If purchasing new furniture isn’t in your budget, having your old items reupholstered is a good way to go.  Textiles in animal prints are very art deco and a fantastic way to remake some old items.

After you have picked out some furniture you will want to add some other art deco items to your place. Again, finding flea markets and vintage locations for original antique mirrors, lamps, and vases will surely result in giving you the design you want. Art deco accessories can come in simple, bold lines and solid, deep shades.  Modern items tend to blend very well with retro art deco looks. Adding modern mirrors or rugs can cohesively mix to create your own personal art deco look.

It is easy to achieve a simple, classic art deco look when decorating your residence.  With a few key strong accessories, you can have a retro yet modern designed home that is not only chic but also comfortable. Whether you decide to go with vintage pieces or pick up newer modern mirrors and accessories, your place will never look better than with art deco details and styling.
