An Antique Buddha Statue is one of the most interesting sculptures on the market today! Antique Buddha Statues have served as objects of contemplation, meditation and worship in temples and home shrines past down over several centuries.

It has been said they possess a certain beauty & power to aid mindfulness is in held within the unique character of each piece, which is experienced as a personal connection. When one feels drawn to a particular statue, they have found one’s yidam, or personal meditation deity. I have not yet found my yidam… much less my missing car keys. All the more reason to take heed of the Buddist practices of mindfulness, clarity and relaxed focus.

In my internet crawling I have seen many different levels of an antique Buddha statue. Some times it is very difficult to really tell if is antique or not. Much like any other type of age verification there are some simple steps that can guide one into a good purchase.

1. Use your own common sense. Never blindly trust what the vendor is telling you. Collect data on the artifact and do your homework.

2. Look for patina. Patina is a film on the surface of bronze or similar metals (produced by oxidation over a long period); a sheen produced by age, wear, and polishing; or any such acquired change of a surface through age and exposure.

3. Ask for documentation of verification. Many collectors have acquired letters of authenticity and keep them with the statue just in case they every wish to sell it.

4. Never be shy about asking your questions.

5. If in doubt… seek out a near buy antique dealer and ask them to take a look at it for you; most of the time they will do it as a favor or for a nominal fee.
